Shivratri Fair in Mandi
Over 200 hill gods and goddesses converge
on the sprawling Padal ground of Mandi town to participate
in International Shivratri Fari in the centuries old
heritage town of temples, known as Kashi of Himachal
Pradesh .
Shivratri is celebrated with religious
fervour and gaiety. The town dresses up for week-long
celebrations which are held in keeping with 600-year old
royal traditions of princely rulers. Noted artists from
home and abroad regale the audience in the colourful
evening cultural programmes.
Mandi rulers were devotees of Lord Shiva.
Bhutnath, Trilokinath, Panchvaktra and Ardhnarishwar are
prominent Shiva temples. There are over 100 temples here.
Built in Shikhra style these are the finest specimen of
hill architecture.
The Shivratri fair is being celebrated here
since the very foundation of the present Mandi town was
laid in 1526 during
the rule of Ajber Sen. |
